I’ve loved Henry Hensley since I was seven years old. We’ve gone from best friends to lovers to nothing.
To most people, he’s the Chicago Falcons starting right winger and hot single dad, but to me, he’s my first boyfriend, my first kiss, my first love.
Eight years ago, that all changed when our lives took us in two different directions. Our break-up almost broke me, so I kept my distance until our hometown called me back to where our story began.
I promised myself a quick visit to help my family out, and then I’d leave town before he even knew I was back, which should have been easy. He’s way too busy being a professional hockey player and raising his son to ever find out.
Of course, I’m only in town for a week before I run into him, and one thing is clear from our brief encounter—Henry wants to hash out our past, whereas I’d rather forget it.
But my plan really goes up in flames when I take a temporary substitute teaching job, and on day one, his son walks into my classroom. Boom.
Here are some of the tropes you can expect to find inside:
- Single Dad
- Slow Burn
- Hockey Romance
- Second Chance Romance
- Childhood Sweethearts
- Close Proximity
- Found Family

I loved this book. It had all the feels.
I devoured this book as quickly as possible, and then read it again to enjoy it. Such a perfect, authentic story about young love reuniting years later, holding true to the original story where these two first appeared as children.
While this was wonderful for those connections, this series, The Nest, is also a series I am enjoying - well written, amusing, and keeps me wanting more. The characters, even minor ones, you want to know about and be friends with.
Love this series! Can’t wait to see more!
True love will grow stronger. Loved it.
Jade may have loved Henry since she was seven years old but now, we all love him too!
This was sweet, emotional, and heartwarming, a perfect single dad, second chance love story.
While the story unfolds in the present, we were gifted with well timed flashbacks that told the story of their deep bond but also the circumstances leading to and causing their split and the subsequent absence from each other’s lives.
The cast of secondary characters bring so much to the story. Including Bodhi’s point of view within the narrative was perfect storytelling, his attempts at matchmaking priceless, but getting the inside track on his thoughts about his dad and Jade fit so well into the story. Jade’s twin brothers, Owen and Waylon, steal every scene they’re in, their banter on point and hilarious, and their relationship with Bodhi (aka Bodzilla), absolutely adorable. The hockey boys (The Nest dwellers) bring fun and light heartedness every time they meddle; but for me Reed and Victoria stand out for their shared wisdom and the gentle guidance they give both Jade and Henry, I loved the overall family dynamic, the support and love.
It’s a well-paced story, easy to read, and hard to put down, and the epilogue... OMG!
